‘I have loved skateboarding since I was 11 years old when I was given a wee plastic skateboard for my birthday. It was a cheap toy thing but it was enough to get me hooked. I quickly managed to break it and then saved up to buy my first real skateboard, a Tony Hawk from Boardwise. I remember skating seven days a week on school summer holidays and the great feeling of going to bed exhausted with a few new bruises and a few new tricks mastered. The skateboard I’ve donated to the museum is one I found years ago at a car boot sale. It’s older than me, from sometime in the 1980’s and unusual because the deck is metal! It’s not that great to ride but looks great. I’m proud to have a skateboard in the museum because it represents how important skating is, it’s kept me out of trouble, kept me fit and given me a great bunch of pals.’
