Regeneration Award

Donated by Lesley Hinds

This National Housing Award  was presented to Muirhouse Housing Association in 1999.  It was forwarded to The People’s Museum of Memory and Myth by Lesley Hinds who was a local councillor for Muirhouse at the time.  As well as being a tribute to the hard work and innovation that facilitated the building of new homes and community amenities at that time, Lesley states that it is also a tribute to the local people who showed enormous dedication to improving the community environment and in particular Maureen MacMillan who was a ‘committed community activist and a heart of the community’.

It is significant that this award has been dusted down and displayed again today, twenty years later, as Muirhouse finds itself moving forward through another period of transformation and regeneration.
