Boxing Gloves

A pair of early training boxing gloves signed by Ken Buchanan ‘World Champion’.  These gloves were signed and donated by Ken specifically for The People’s Museum of Memory and Myth.

 

Ken Buchanan MBE, a professional boxer from Edinburgh who became Undisputed World Lightweight Champion by defeating Ismael Laguna in a world title fight in Peurto Rico in September 1970.  Ken continued fighting at World and European levels until 1982.

 

In 2000 he was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame.  Ken remains active and passionate about boxing supporting and promoting the sport nationally and locally and particularly encouraging young people in North Edinburgh to benefit from the training and disciplines of boxing.
