Donated by The Gunner (public bar)

This item along with some other artefacts displayed in the cabinet was salvaged from The Gunner bar on Pennywell Road.  The bar closed its doors for good in the summer of 2017 and was demolished in December 2017 as part of the Muirhouse redevelopment scheme.

The Gunner is written into the history and mythology of Muirhouse, the only bar in Edinburgh built without windows, it earned a fearsome reputation with some and holds  fond memories for many others.  Famous or infamous it was a significant landmark in the culture and history of the area and some of its stories and legacy may live on through the memories and associations of the artefacts saved by The People’s Museum of Memory and Myth.
